The University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Graduate School of Business Leadership(GSB&L) in partnership with the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal (EDTEA) is calling for nominations of social entrepreneurs to join the Regional and Local Economic and Development Innitiative’s(RLEDI) 2019 Champions Programme.
What is the Champions Programme?
The Champions Programme is a community development initiative designed for social entrepreneurs which sees them spend 10 months at the GSB&L being exposed to a range of topics custom designed to nurture the development and scale the impact of their enterprises. This is achieved through the candidates participation in a series of work integrated learning practices aimed developing their organizations / ideas into sustainable enterprises and through the creation of an opportunity for these social entrepreneurs to work with other Local Economic Development (LED) practitioners.
How does the Champion Programme run?
The Champions Programme runs as a block release programme (2 days per month) scheduled from February to November 2019. The programme includes workshops on personal growth and development, human centred design thinking, innovation,entrepreneurship, legal structures, financial management, marketing, human resources, integrated supply chain management and assessing and measuring performance of the enterprise. Successful candidates may be funded for this programme. Funding includes accommodation, fees and course materials.

How to apply?
Local chambers of commerce, local government, students and RLEDI alumni are invited to make nominations of social entrepreneurs who meet the requirements above. Individuals who meet this criteria are encouraged to apply.
Interested candidates must submit the following documents:
- CV
- Certified copy of ID.
- A supporting letter from a credible organization in your community, for example, the LED Officer of your Local Municipality, Local Business Chamber or similar organization.
